“Timelessness has as much to do with the Future as it does the Past.” 70 x 100cm, Lightjet on Dibond, Matthew Stone 2009
Oneshot is a photo exhibition curated by Jesper Elg.
During studio visits, flipping through portfolios or browsing artists’ private photos I have often encountered really interesting imagery that the artist didn’t feel fitted into their general practice. It could be a photo that wasn’t typical for the artists work, a random snapshot, an idea that couldn’t grow into a series, a great photo shot at a party or on a holiday, a portrait, a sunset, a weird freak encounter, a mistake, a painter who took interesting photos as source material but would never dream of showing them as part of a show. It can be random or constructed. But one shot that stood out in some way and didn’t quite fit in anywhere else. There are no rules or regulations as to the subject matter. The intention is to create a diverse exhibition that involves and engages all styles of photography. The title also refers to the fact that in the world of art photography the general rule is that all works are in an edition in order to insure the livelihood of the artist and sometimes also of the gallerist. With Oneshot we wish to break this norm, here the idea is that there can only be one print, the one print hanging on the wall. Oneshot in one edition.
